For
the past 13 years, Marni has been
involved in Organizational Development
in a number of sectors: manufacturing,
health care, food production, call
centre, hospitality, municipal and
government offices and information
technology.
With her business partner Judith
Bond, she established Workplace
Training & Services (WTS) Inc.,
a leader in Communication Training.
After conducting comprehensive organizational
needs assessments, Marni has designed
and delivered training in the areas
of Workplace English as a Second
Language, Customer Service, Diversity,
Clear Language and Design, Business
Writing, WHMIS, Pronunciation Training
and Ontario Human Rights Training.
As a facilitator, Marni has helped
companies align their human resource
practices to the goals and visions
of the organization. Due to the
excellent track record of WTS Inc.,
the company was asked to participate
in the TVOntario video project,
“Falling Through the Cracks
– Workplace Literacy.”
In addition, WTS has been involved
in several federal and provincial
curriculum design projects, most
notably in the publication of Canada
Works, which was commissioned by
Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
As well as curriculum design and
training, Marni has conducted Job
Task Analyses to assist with the
creation of recruitment tools specifically
designed for hiring front line employees
in a multicultural work environment.
After completing her undergraduate
degree in Visual Arts at the University
of Western Ontario and her Bachelor
of Education Degree in Toronto,
Marni taught English for six years
and then joined Nelson Canada Publishing
as their National Language Consultant.
In 1989, after extensive experience
doing workplace training, she became
the Co-ordinator of Workplace Programming
for the Etobicoke Board of Education.
In 1995 she was nominated for the
Etobicoke Board of Education’s
Award of Excellence.
Marni is a member of the Ontario
Society for Training and Development
(OSTD). She is co-author of “Behind
the Scenes – Demonstration
Tasks for the Workplace,”
a book which analyzes the competency
levels required for workplace success
in the field of Health Care, Manufacturing
and Hospitality. Over the last several
years she has been a presenter at
several Canadian and international
conferences including the American
Society for Training and Development
(ASTD) New York; Moving Forward
– A Forum on Workplace Education
Conference, Toronto and Workplace
Education Conference, Montreal.
